“Future Farms” is our name, yet it is more than just a name, it is symbolic of what we believe: current farm practice should ensure future farm vitality. The health of the soil should be maintained into perpetuity so all farms can remain sustainable into the future.

THE FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS.
The mission of “Future Farms” is to bring healthy food and farms to you and your family. We believe that in the future, farms will have to be returned to human scale in order to regain and ensure diversity, accessibility, and longevity. Future food production should develop with people at a local level, and there's nothing more local than a farm in every yard! So forget about involuntarily dealing with capital market fluctuations, technocratic institutions, and synthetic petroleum inputs, we'll show you how to grow food how it's supposed to be grown, in harmony with life and human needs on earth!
If you're short on time, we'll setup the infrastructure for you, then all you have to do is water, weed, and harvest. Check out 'Edible Landscaping' for further details.

ABOUT OUR GROWING.
We practice what we recommend. We've turned our yards into a farm!
“Future Farms” mainly uses two types of agricultural methods, the row garden and a variation of the square foot method. Row gardening is a simple way to use a larger piece of land for growing food, this is the standard method that most people are familiar with, in which plants are planted in rows. The square food method was developed by Mel Bartholomew in order to grow more crops in a smaller area. It encompasses a raised bed infrastructure with trellised plants growing vertically to save space.  We use a more sustainable variation of this method.
In all cases we use organic compost to keep the soil alive and healthy, we never use synthetic fertilizers. We plant organic, non genetically modified seeds, we conserve water by using drip systems instead of sprinklers, we utilize crop rotation and cover cropping methods, and we are completely chemical and pesticide free. Plus, we live and grow locally in Cotati and Santa Rosa, which reduces the environmental costs of transporting food, while strengthening social cohesion within our communities.
Come see our setup, give suggestions, ask questions, and grow it yourself!
